XI View V2.2.1 (Sept, 1, 2017) - [USER INTERFACE]

Even though I passed this project on to Caradog (who is doing a great job btw) I still like to help make things better and help if I can. With that said, I know someone has asked about where Icons Type 1 is being that XI View uses Type 2. I found the Type 1 dats and I know some people would like to use Type 1 in Xi View because it would use the old default Menu icons that you see in your spell,ja,ws menu list.
I am still unable to find the default menu icons dat which would probably be an easier fix, but being I found the locations of Type 1 Icons maybe this could be a work around for some of you guys. This does come with issues. Main one being These Type 1 icons are in a different format (thank SE for not making it a quick copy and paste of XI Views icons)
Currently XI View's Icons are in this format.
32bit 32x32
Type 1 Icons
32bit 16x16
If I go ahead and replace the dat with XI View's Icons you get a blown up version of the icons, which look like this.

Not really a bad think, some may like it i dunno but the icons overlap like you see. Personally I like XI View's Icons with the old default menu icons, and I'll keep looking to try and find those. Maybe someone can make a new version of FFXI Icon changer to read these dats or maybe it's a simple fix, because when you open them up in the lastest version of Icon changer each Icon shows as double and they are very small. It's weird.
Anyways, here's the locations of the dats and you all can have a go at it
JP- ROM/287/80.DAT
NA- ROM/287/81.DAT
German- ROM/287/82.DAT
French- ROM/287/83.DAT

I actually like the overlap of larger icons, myself. Any way we could get the DATs for those icons to use if we wanted? This was something that had been bothering me lately as I kept applying the XIView updates and not getting the icons.

@Wildman: Thats interesting info, thanks, Doesn't Xi View still include the old 16x16 version of iconchanger? I thought it did, will have to experiment with that...
@banggugyangu: I'm not entirely sure what you mean by apply xi view and not getting the icons?

In the entire XIView compressed file, there's only one instance of ROM/287/81.DAT which is in the "00 - Original Backup 17-3-13" folder. It's been this way for several versions at least for me.

@banggugyangu: thats because those files refer to the old 16 bit icons associated with the unused config setting, for the current version of xi view your config icon type should be set to 2.

You have no idea how crazy that was driving me.... I suppose it was set back to 1 when my USER folder corrupted and I restored to a semi-old backup a while ago.... lolz disregard my last couple posts.

Okies, I'm glad thats fixed for you!

like I said, I actually am a fan of the overlapping, personally, though I would prefer maybe a black outline that's 1-2 pixels wide to cause identical icons to distinguish themselves (march songs in that picture)

For NA go into your XI View download, Normal Screen or Widescreen, it doesn't matter.
Rom / 119/ 57.DAT copy and paste that dat to your desktop and rename it to 81.DAT.
Then go to FFXI game directory, ROM/ 287 and replace the 81.DAT with the new one you just renamed.
Maybe in the future Caradog will just add this as an option if you want these enlarged Icons or until we find the correct fix.
As for adding a 1-2 pixel black outline, that would be very time consuming as you would need to manually do that to each icon, and there is over 500 icons.

I think it would be a fair assumption that widescreen is used by @ least 95% of all players at this point. I don't think it would be an unreasonable practice to provide the widescreen option through the launcher if possible and append a disclaimer that if someone uses a 4:3 display, there is an overlay that would be necessary. Of course, It could also be made to detect the resolution being used (which would represent the aspect ratio) and simply apply the proper DATs accordingly.

I'm one of the one that use the 4:3. Since I play in the 16:10 aspect ratio I like view of the icons better in 4:3. the WS ones look squished to me. I don't really see there being that much of an issue to provide the WS and 4:3 both in the launcher. you can advertise those out as 2 different menu options and maintain both files sites on the server. But developers would still need to someone responsible to maintain those packages, code source, and update the files on the server. Not even sure if they have the space to host the files either.

First of all, thanks to the Windower team for such a useful interface, and thanks to projects like XI View here for great facelift work. I'm a new player of Final Fantasy XI, and so these projects are making a great time even more enjoyable.
However, while I do like the default changes XI View comes with...I cannot make further customization.
I've been trying to apply one of the Ubuntu fonts and the FF7 pointer to ROM\119\51.dat. But even when ChangeTex says the alterations are successful, they're not showing up when I start the game. What REALLY makes it weird is that ChangeTex is showing 51.dat with a "lock" icon. But ONLY ChangeTex is doing that. Window's own file manager is not showing 51 to be locked in read-only, or restricted in any way.
After unsuccessful attempts, I had POL refresh all the FFXI data and re-applied XI View. Sadly, when I tried to make my custom choices again, it still claimed "success" without changing anything. And the lock is still there.
Anyone else come across this?
As I said, the default white pointer and Trebuchet font are still great improvements. I'm just looking to make the interface a little more "me". <
Thanks!

Random question but have you tried altering the file while its in another location? By default the Programs folder is Read-only and programs like notepad or changetex will have trouble saving there

That...did the trick all right. I made a copy of 51 (post-XI View) to the desktop, did the ChangeTex alterations, flew it back to the original folder...presto!
Thanks!
