Same problem for me. I can load POL through Windower4 just fine, but POL crashes after the ESRB screen. Can load the game just fine if I go through regular POL without using windower. Have tried checking and unchecking compatibility modes for everything, checking and unchecking run as admin for everything... nothing seems to work.

I recently bought a Surface Pro 4 to login to ffxi while on vacation and do random stuff.  This is the same situation I have.  It is running Windows 10.  I can load the game fine without Windower.  Any luck with a fix?  I also had the white box problem but fixed it using the fix described.  But still crashing right before the accept page.  Also, without windower I initially had problems with the DirectX version not being found until I used compatibility for ffxi. Not sure if that's a problem.  Really want to figure out how to get Windower to work because the game just isn't the same without it.

Why has there been no solution to this issue.  this is dated over a year and everyone still has the same issue with it? are you only picking selective stuff to fix? I know other Windower type programs that has no issue with this? Do you suggest for us to use their program?

@Charlie: Because we've never been able to reproduce it on any of our machines, and the crash dumps we've been given have all had call stacks without any Windower functions, which is not very helpful when trying to track down a bug. We do know that Windower is causing these crashes, but hook.dll alone has nearly 500,000 lines of source code spread over approximately 700 files. Heck, we're not even sure the bug is in our code, we use a number of 3rd-party libraries, some of which we don't even have source code for. Add to this the fact that bugs of this nature are usually not very obvious when looking at the source code, and hopefully you can get some idea of how hard it is to find a bug like this; it's literally like trying to find a very tiny needle in a very large haystack.

TL;DR: It's simply not feasible for us to track down this bug with the information we have.

I crashed when I click play on the main screen, but when I start up from pol it works fine. Here is a link to my crash dump: https://mega.nz/#!gR...S6cSMrgUxspA1XY

I used windower on the same laptop, but because of a quest I could not launch pol. So I reinstalled everything. Now that pol works and quest is complete, windower does not work. I tried reinstalling my drivers: intel hd 5500, and nvidia geforce 904m. Check to see if legacy mode is on, set FFXI config to all three window settings. Uninstalled windower and reinstalled FFXI

I am not sure what went wrong when I did this. I am computer stupid, but thanks in advance

I just got a new laptop and the game runs fine in vanilla state but when i load into windower after doing the white window fix it wants to run the game at 17 fps... i uncap fps and it still runs like crap. I'm sure its a software issue because my computer can run games like skyrim or WoW at 60 fps on Very high.Anyone found a solution for that?

So I'm having this issue as well. None of the fixes on the forums have worked. I follow the steps to create and save a crash dump. Here is an excerpt from it and as far as I can tell is the root cause of the crash. I just don't know how to fix it from here.  To me it looks like there's a problem with the FFXiMain.dll and I'm gonna try and get that from a buddy to replace it and see if that solves it, but if that's not it I'm at a loss and would love some help. I can upload the entire .dmp file if needed. Any help given would be great.

                Thanks.

Hello, I just re-downloaded on my new laptop with windows 10. Attempting to play during the free 10 day log in campaign thing. Windower does not work, just a blank white window pops up. Attempted to use the fix changing the key (Hardware acceleration thing) and it did not work, no change. There is still no fix for this I'm assuming from reading this whole thread?

Just returned to FFXI and after the troubles of upgrading to Windows 10. when alt-tabbing the mouse stays active in Windower, very anoying doing random stuff in the background.

Also using a multi-display setup and when moving the mouse outside of FFXI and clicking anything causes my character to run all over the show.

FFXI also crashes when ever UAC pop-up window shows.

                  Are these known issues?

I'm not sure what could be causing the first problem. The UAC crash problem is on SE's end, not ours; the same thing happens if you play without Windower.

So I went and did a clean install making sure to download the correct client-install (EU version in my case) and it's fixed all the issues I had.

I'm guessing either my old user files caused the problem or I may have used the wrong install-client.

I solved the UAC issue by stopping my computer switching to a grayed out screen. I try'd using Task manager/schedule but think I'm over looking something as command instance apears to crash or fails to open the program intended.

I'm not sure what could be causing the first problem. The UAC crash problem is on SE's end, not ours; the same thing happens if you play without Windower.

Can confirm that disabling the "dim" option on UAC messages will eliminate any ffxi crashes. Thanks for that one Skiwee.

I also had the crash from POL to FFXI using Windower4 on FFXI.

It took several hours of trying, but in the end what fixed it for me is for me is not to install in Program Files (x86), but somewhere else, where windows 10 gives us more permissions / does less checks etc.

For testing purposes I installed Windower4 on the Desktop and it worked instantly, no matter if run as administrator /  UAC level etc.

I'm having this same problem. POL and Windower are both run as admin, read-only is turned off for all the folders, I've done the fix for issue #176 and still it crashes after the ESRB when the game transitions from POL to FFXI. It works fine without Windower, but I'd like to have the map and add ons that Windower provides... Please help.

Here is a link to a video to show what it does: https://www.dropbox.... crash.mp4?dl=0 I don't know how to get the crash log. FFXI works fine without windower running as mentioned previously. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game and windower. I have yet to try doing a clean install of Windows but there are things that I do not want to lose that will become lost when that happens. Please help!

OK so i found out something wacky that might help ..... i have been bashing my head against a stone wall here trying to get either windower of ffxi to work ....and i found a cycle of conditions ....

so when i Install windower 4 it breaks HOWEVER if i completely clean uninstall windower 4, FFXI will still not pass the ESRB rating stage, it crashes to a black screen or reports direct 3d error when direct 3d is running fine BUT !!! if i then with windower uninstalled use the system config to correct my resolution. the problem goes away and ffxi works !!!! I think it has something to do with either windows, my MSI video card, and the way windower "seizes control of the resolution" from FFXI its quite possibly square enixis fault for changing something with the way the config tool works or some resolution code. but hopefully that points you all in the right direction.

New PC with Windows 10, Installed windower 4, seems to be working fine. tried to download a lua file to Windower 4/addons/GearSwap/data, but wont let me.

Box pops up says you will need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes.
