I vaguely recall there was a plugin on windower 3.x that allowed you to make use of extra keys on the keyboard.  I recently purchased a new keyboard that has extra keys (Razer Anansi).  Is that plugin still available in windower 4.0?  If so, I don't see it on the wiki.

Additionally, that plugin was for keyboards that had G keys.  This keyboard doesn't have G keys, but I would assume they could be mapped in some way.  How would I do that?

The plugin is called Binder, you can find it listed under plugins in the Windower 4.0 launcher. However, it supports a limited number of devices, and the Razer Anansi is not one of them. New devices have to be added to the plugin manually by reverse engineering their communication protocol. This is usually not too difficult, and I think the Anansi can be added. However the 7 extra modifier keys will not act as general modifiers in Windower. If they can be accessed, they will have to either be mapped as extra macro keys or as modifiers for the 5 other macro keys.

The full list of supported devices is:

        • Logitech G11
        • Logitech G13
        • Logitech G15
        • Logitech G15 v2
        • Logitech G19
        • Logitech G110
        • Logitech G510
        • Logitech G700
        • Logitech G710
        • Microsoft Sidewinder X4
        • Razer BlackWindow
        • Razer Naga

Iryoku, is Binder absolutely the only way to mesh a gaming keyboard's macro keys with FFXI?  If so -- and I don't have any idea what goes into adding new supported devices, so please forgive if the question is naive -- what are the odds of having a requested device added to the supported list?  Being ignorant of the Binder requirement, I picked up a nice (and supposedly popular.....ish) Steelseries Apex keyboard the other day and am discovering so far that using their software to assign macros only seems to make Windower open/close its console, and nothing else.

Binder is the only way to make the macro keys available "natively" in Windower. In many cases you can use the device's profile software, but you're limited to simple keypress sequences, you can't run Windower scripts.

The best way to get a device added to Binder is to ask me on IRC in the #windower channel on ffochat.com. The process involves answering a lot of questions, running some tools, sending back the results and testing builds as I figure out how the device works. I also need to be clear that I can't guarantee anything, some devices simply cannot be interfaced with directly from user mode, and require a kernel mode filter driver. If this is the case with your device, then there's nothing I can do.

Though it was determined that this particular keyboard won't work with Binder, thank you Iryoku for working with me to look into it.

What he actually said was that you could get it working if you hopped on IRC and were willing to click some buttons, just so we're clear.

No, we did. Iryoku determined it wouldn't work with this keyboard.  I was just saying "thanks again," I thought it was cool he would take time out to hammer it out with me.  Apologies for the lack of clarity on my part.

I might try to do that in the next few days to see about the razer anansi keyboard.  I would love to have it working.

the weby doesn't list g710 keyboard, i'm assuming the alias is just alias g710_m1g4 input /ma “Carbuncle” <me>;  though? I remember helping you update this but I have since re-installed everything x_x
