I realize this is not a windower problem (as I have figured out through troubleshooting) but I'm hoping someone might know a fix for this apparently unique issue:

So my old wired controller farted out on me, didn't have this issue using that controller. New one is a wireless Afterglow PS3 Controller (Bought here) and the box says it works for PC. Got it all setup through FFXiPadConfig, and when only playing ONE character it works completely fine (although it sends input with game unfocused). But when I load another FFXI it controls both at the same time. I have "Enable gamepad when game is inactive" unchecked in Padconfig, though I have also tried it with it checked. Have used 1 as (another windower clone) and 1 as windower, have used just the native client as well and it's the same issue both times. Have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, no dice.

At a complete loss atm, really just repeating my steps over and over again at this point.

tl;dr: 1 controller is controlling two game instances at the same time, can't figure out why.

thats ffxi for you, it was never designed to be dual-boxed, so the only suggestion is to use keyboard and mouse

and disabling "Enable gamepad when game is inactive" might help

Have done that, and have also tried with it checked (cause why not..) and still have the same issue. It's not an FFXI issue though, have never had this problem before.

Wrong it is FFXI's fault because you cant dual box with out windower or the other one its because ffxi always watches the controller inputs even when minimized

unless you disable "Enable gamepad when game is inactive"

windower and the other one use custom settings and as far as i know neither have a way to change this setting but thay still might set tit to defaults

Windower does have some code to keep track of multiple instances and disable controller input when another instance takes focus, but it's extremely buggy. As far as I know we don't do anything that would override the "Enable gamepad when game is inactive" setting being unchecked, though. I suggest you make sure that setting is actually being saved. The FFXI config tools are a bit... weird. But if it's definitely being saved, and it's still doing this, then I'm just as baffled as you are.

I have been able to dual box perfectly fine up until I got this new controller, so I'm doubting that it's FFXI's fault.

Update: Disabled HAT switches in PadConfig and now when neither game is focused, it doesn't control either characters... but when I focus one game it starts to control both.. What in the flying fuck.

Further update: Forced Windower to connect to a different .exe launcher (which was actually to a seperate private server completely) and it still is controlling both at the same time when one is focused. Did this to see if maybe it was an issue with controller seeing two "pol.exe" of the same type being used so it controlled both instead of one.

Welcome to my world... I have asked that question literally every day since I started working on Windower.

In my experience controllers have been touch and go, especially if it's one originally created for consoles. Some people have no problem at all say with DS3/Xbone controllers and yet myself and another friend simply could not get them to work properly 100% (most functions but not all) despite following the same steps. I originally had a Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 that gave out after many years and sadly it goes for $150 or more now since it's no longer manufactured. I did find a cheaper alternative that hasn't had any issues whatsoever and may hopefully work for you too if you are still having difficulties. Just be sure to toggle the top switch to D for DirectInput if you do happen to give it a shot
