Weird Windower Crashes

Best Answer gdiShun , 03 December 2016 - 12:32 PM

Was hoping I wouldn't have to but reformatting seems to have solved it. Been slowly reinstalling things and it seems fine now.

I'm having an issue with Windower that causes my game to crash. It starts off with individual "streams" of audio randomly muting and un-muting. I don't know if that's the right word, but like the music, battle SFX, ability SFX, footsteps, etc. separately will mute and un-mute. Eventually, they won't un-mute and most sounds except maybe 1 or 2 "streams" will be muted. If I open the Windower console at this point, it'll be completely blank outside of the $, and if I input anything(valid Windower/addon command or gibberish), or if an addon tries to do pretty much anything(eg Gearswap swapping gear), I'll get a Dialog box saying:

      Runtime Error!

      Program: G:\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\pol.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.

Please contact the application's support team for more information.

After I click "OK", I'll get the Windows "PlayOnline Viewer has stopped working" error with these problem details:

      Problem signature:
        Problem Event Name:    APPCRASH
        Application Name:    pol.exe

Or alternatively, if I try to zone, I'll get this "PlayOnline Viewer has stopped working" error(without the "Runtime Error!" Dialog box):

I've tried without addons/plugins, different PlayOnline settings(Graphics Stabilization, etc.), different Windower settings, closing Firefox(I have Flash disabled but figured that might still be causing it), running Check Files, reinstalling FFXI, reinstalling Windower, outright deleting the ImeUiDll.dll files(crashes just point to FFXiMain.dll then), different audio/graphics drivers. Most of these multiple times and mixing and matching but to no avail. I don't have this problem on the base game alone, only with Windower.

I'm using Windows 8.1 x64, Intel i5 3570k, NVIDIA 970(365.10 drivers atm) if any of that is helpful.

I'm at a loss. Hopefully it's something stupid I didn't think of though. :\ Any help is appreciated!

Does this happen without Windower? It doesn't really sound like something that Windower could be causing (we don't touch the client's audio interfaces).

Nope. I have no problems on the base game. it's only with Windower. :\

And just to add some things I've tried, today i tried with my anti-virus disabled, as well as installing the Japanese language on Windows since it points to that ImeUiDll.dll file but no luck.

EDIT: I found some sort of different PlayOnline Viewer for Vista/7 on the PlayOnline website(http://www.playonlin...ml?pageID=media). Not sure if I need it but going to try that next time the game crashes.

I've pretty much lost hope but just some things to add.

First, this issue also happens with ######. So it isn't Windower-specific but is "windower"-specific...

And now just a rundown attempting to be quick and concise.

            What happens:
-Weird sound issues(as detailed above), eventually resulting in the game being (mostly) muted.
-Windower console blanked out with only the "$" sign, and whatever I type, shown. This seems like the point of no return where I'll be crashing soon.
-/map will sometimes show just a gray screen. I think dependent on whether I looked at the map before the console blanking out.
-Crashes upon windower(or windower-intercepted) commands. Addon dependent.
            -Crashes upon zoning.
-If I'm able to play through these issues, animation issues will start to surface. Usually upon engaging. My character's upper body will be static. Weapon(s) sometimes at their feet. Legs running in whatever direction I pressed last, whether I'm still moving or not.
-Further playing, going into first-person may cause my character model to disappear after I return to third-person view.

            What causes crashes:
-Any sort of windower commands. Whether through console or in-game chat.
            -Zoning.
-Most XI commands. I believe Shortcuts or similar addon dependent.

What I can do after issues start surfacing(with addons unless otherwise mentioned):
-Engage via menu. Unsure about command.
            -/map
            -/sea
-Do most things through normal XI menus. Abilities/macros are addon dependent. Seems like Gearswap and/or Shortcuts.

Interesting things that are potentially worth noting:
-While overall it seems to occur randomly, it seems like it occurs more frequently when spending time battling instead of questing or idle or something that causes the log to scroll slower.
-Gearswaps caused from the addon itself, or my .lua(eg when engaging, when swapping to Ninja AF feet at night, etc.), don't cause crashes but macros do.
-Gearswaps caused from Binder macros, still cause the "Runtime error!" prompt but the game will run fine in the background. I'm unable to play due to the error prompt though.

Basically, if I'm staying in the same zone, only auto-attacking things, and only using menus(no commands), it seems like I can stay on perpetually no matter what addons I'm using(and again, it will still happen without addons/plugins. Just less things will cause crashes.). There will just be weird issues.
