Crashing....

Best Answer Iryoku , 14 October 2014 - 02:47 PM

This is caused by SecureDesktop (the dimming of the screen that happens when the UAC prompt appears). It's a problem in FFXI itself, and there's nothing Windower can do to fix it. You can solve this in one of three ways: 1. Disable UAC entirely (not recommended), 2. Lower the User Account Control setting 1 notch in the settings dialog (better), or 3. Manually editing system's security policy to not prompt on the SecureDesktop (best, but not possible on all versions of Windows 7).

To do option two, click Start, and search for "UAC" (without the quotes). Click on "Change User Account Control settings". Then slide the bar down so that it is in the second position from the bottom (or third from the top), and click "OK".

You can find steps for the third option on the Microsoft support site.

      Hello,

Just recently built a new gaming PC and i'm having trouble with Playonline crashing.  I didn't personally build it myself and i'm admittedly not CPU savvy.  So All I can do is give ya'll as much info as I can.

*Note* I have never crashed while playing and only having 1 character logged in.  It only crashes while POL/Windower4 is running and I attempt to start another application (i.e. 3rd party program, start another windower4 up to log a mule in, ect ect)

      Things that do crash Windower:

      - Starting another Windower4

      - Any install of a program (i.e. downloaded Notepad ++ and Winrar 64bit, and immediately when I hit install, windower4 crashed)

-FFXI 3rd party programs (i.e. Cupper)

Things that do NOT crash Windower:

      -Google Chrome

      -Steam

      -Skype

Again, it should be noted that these crashes only happen while I have 1 Windower running.  I AM able to start 2 Windowers and log in 2 char's, but it has to be done at the same time.  One cannot reach the game client part of POL (Blue screen where you press accept) then attempt to fire up the 2nd windower. It will crash.  But, if i start 2 windowers together, i'm fine.

I've tried reinstalling Windower4, troubleshot certain plugins, and updated my 1 of my drivers.  Again, I know nothing technical about CPU's, so the things i've attempted were suggested by the person who built this PC (who doesn't play FFX).

I have Windows 7 as my OS

If anyone has an idea of what could be causing this, please help.  It's a pain in the ass.  I'll be glad to get you any CPU info I need to.

      Thanks!
