      Hi,

After much testing and format/re-installing, I've finally pinned down the exact reason why I couldn't play using

Windower in Windows 10.  The culprit is my default Japanese keyboard (using MS IME).

I run the english version of Windows 10, with Japanese/IME keyboard as default.  I can start POL manually

and it works fine (but no japanese input in-game, of course).

With Windower, however, as soon as I launch POL, I get a crash.  I can't even get into POL.

The POL splash screen appears, then the POL window gets created, with the titlebar saying "PlayOnline Viewer Ver.1.18.15e - Windower Enabled",

but nothing displays, and I get the windows pop-up saying "PlayOnline Viewer has stopped working" and it must be closed.

In Windows 8.1 (still Win 8.1 english with Japanese/IME keyboard), it works fine, and japanese input works fine in-game.

Back to Windows 10, if I add another keyboard (US English), POL launches just fine.

If I switch back to JP/IME before launching FFXI, it crashes upon launching it.

Once in-game, I can switch to JP/IME, and can even start typing Japanese (IME working fine), but as soon as I hit enter to confirm

the sentence (IME confirm), the game crashes.

I've completelly formatted and re-installed Windows 10 several times, and I always get the same results.

Hopefully this helps pinpoint the issue, which I would really appreciate seeing resolved, as I can't type Japanese while in Windows 10.

Edit: Forgot to mention, disabling the IME plugin still causes the crash.  I even tried a new profile with no plugins/addons at all, and it still crashes.

Couldn't even begin to tell you what the problem may be. I've been using Windows 10 with the Japanese IME keyboard as my default for a while now without any problems. Getting us a crash dump may help, but the trend for Windows 8 and also Windows 10 has been that it just seems to crash for some people and we can't figure out why. Windower really doesn't do very much to PlayOnline itself.

I tried placing the DumpSetup.exe file in Windower's directory, but it didn't produce any crash dump.

I do have Visual Studio installed though, and hit Debug on windows' crash notice, and the crash happens in windower's Hook.dll

The error is a read exception at address 0.

Call stack says it happes at Hook.dll!0278fbc0

          which is called by Hook.dll!0280c8e8

The instruction there is movzx eax, [edx]

Just before, edx is set with: mov edx, [ebp+0Ch]

If I get this right, the 1st instruction of the function tries to dereference a pointer given

as the 1st parameter, which is NULL.

Not sure how much this helps, but I guess it's better than nothing.

DumpSetup just sets up some registry keys to tell windows to save a crash dump to Windower/dumps when a crash occurs. If you use the JIT debugger then that will kick in before Windows has a chance to save the dump. However if you have Visual Studio you can manually save a crash dump. Just attach to pol.exe like you did before then select Debug > Save Dump As..., then upload the file somewhere for us to look at.

Well, I gave up and went back to good ol' Windows 7, and japanese input is working fine.

Hopefully the issue can eventually resolve itself so I can go back to Windows 10 :)

Hi, my friend has had this problem and found a solution on JP website.

                  Here's the original solution:

                  http://penguintan.bl...-entry-782.html

tl;dr: Microsoft IME is crap, install a different one, for example Google IME (https://www.google.co.jp/ime/).
