      Hi, I've tried searching for someone with a similar issue but I've not been able to come across anything.

      I recently came back to the game, and purchased a copy through steam (Seeker's Ultimate edition). After playing for a couple days I've decided I want to go back to using windower, however whenever I launch I receive a POL error that reads:

      Playonline Viewer installation cannot write to specified destination folder.

      I am assuming that this issue is coming from the fact that my game files are saved in my steam directory on my D: drive, and not on a basic directory through C:Program Files. I had a bit of a headache just getting the game to run normally while booting through steam. My guess is Windower just doesn't know where to look for my POL.EXE but I'm not sure how to tell it where it is. Where can I change the directory for Windower to access my pol.exe?

      Thanks in advance!

      I don't know why you receive that error, I don't think I've ever seen it before, maybe Iryoku will know. What I can tell you is that a Steam installation is no problem for Windower, I am also using it from a Steam location. Windower looks up the path in the registry, so it should always be able to find it unless the registry is invalid (which you can confirm if you want to, but like I said, I don't think that's the issue).

        I do believe its an issue with the registry. I had to manually update the regserver so that POL would find my ffxi.dll and ffximain.dll just to get the regular game client to work, so I think its possible somethings fudged somewhere.

        I also have this weird thing where I have 2 FFXI folders, specifically PlayonlineUS and a folder called FFXIPAL, both in my Steam>Steamapps>Common directory. They appear to both contain the FFXI game files in full, including POL.exe. I think this is why my registry is all weird but I can't get rid of either one. Steam won't launch if I delete either folder, so its pulling information from both. I have no idea why or how it installed like this, I googled FFXIPAL and theres actually no results that relate to game information so I really have no idea.

        My guess is having 2 sets of everything would confuse the shit out of Windower though.

        Oh, also in regedit there is NOT an FFXIPAL, only my PlayonlineUS folder, which contatins accurate registry.

          This isn't a Windower error, it's a PlayOnline Viewer error. It sounds like PlayOnline Viewer is launching and then immediately crashing. Does it work if you don't use Windower?

            It does, I only get this crash when I hit launch through windower. Windower opens and runs, then I hit go and I get that error and POL never opens.

              So after a little more digging, FFXIPAL is where my Steam is finding POL. Again, I have two copies of PlayonlineUS folder, one named as such, one names FFXIPAL. I tried opening the POL.EXE in PlayonlineUS and I get the error message I am recieving from windower;

               Playonline Viewer installation cannot write to specified destination folder.

              I don't get this message when I launch POL.EXE through FFXIPAL. It launches just fine as if I had opened the game through steam.

              I have tried uninstalling the PlayonlineUS folder, with POL running, and I get an error saying files are in use (this was to see if steam is using any files in this PlayonlineUS folder) so I know that something in there is part of what is making my steam run.

              I am also looking at Add/Remove programs and while I see an FFXI: Ultimate collection in there, there is no Playonline program which I can uninstall. I am going to install the one from the website, and then replace the POL.exe in my FFXIPAL with that one, and see if it does anything.  x.x

                Basically what I've boiled it all down to is, for some reason I have 2 FFXI folders that both contain a POL and game info. One that is named FFXIPAL works, and one thats named PlayonlineUS does not. The registry wants to use the PlayonlineUS one, but as I said that doesnt work. So, how do I convince the Windower registry to run through FFXIPAL instead of PlayonlineUS? If I can make Windower run through the FFXIPAL folder instead of PlayonlineUS, it should, in theory, work.

                  So I got windower to launch POL, updated, all set to go. Now when I hit play, it checks updates, then fails to run. I get the error: The installation path is not valid. FFXI-(9001)(-1). I don't get this error launching with either steam, or through the POL.exe in the playonline directory. There are like, 10 hits on google for this error, and I have tried all of what they have recommended. I know it has to do with the registry and where windower is trying to find the game files, I just don't know how to make windower look in the right place. Any help here is appreciated.

                  Thanks!
