Today when I try to log in I get the following two pop ups (see below). When I cancel I get the final pop-up and the program shutdown. I have tried comply unintall and deleting folder and re-installing including reboot and still occurs. Any clue? The first popup occurs just after the warning about blood/viloance/etc. Amy idea what's wrong?

Ok it wont let me copy paste the boxes or attach the wortd doc I pasted them to.

      Box 1: FINAL FANTASY XI

(windower logo) Please wait while Windows configures FINAL FANTASY XI

Box 2: Same as above but has a progress bar and above the bar it says Gathering required information.

Box 3: When I hit cancel a popup appears that says:

      PlayOnline Viewer

      (windower logo) Class not registered.

      OK button.

If I do not cancel it just sits there saying it's gathering information. Still not sure what it's gathering.

This isn't Windower. PlayOnline Viewer will do this if it detects a corrupt install. You may need to reinstall PlayOnline Viewer, Final Fantasy XI, or both. You may also be able to just let it do its thing, but it will probably take a long time.

I have the same problem. My question is how can you suddenly have this problem when it was working fine a few hours ago?

in both win 7 and win 8 the only way that error comes up is when a dll some how gets un-registered

there are many ways to fix it but the easiest is to uninstall the offending app and reinstalling it

and so you know there are no viruses in widower but some av's will see windower as a virus because of the way it hooks to pol

the above will cause errors all the time but you can tell your av to not try to fix any windower files

to thoes with this error did a windows update happen before you started getting this error??

Last night around 11pm EST, the game shut down and my security program, Norton 360, popped a red flag for a trojan and isolated the file:  ffxi.dll

I had to go manually allow the file to continue before the game would start back up, even after then I couldn't log in for about 20mins. During that time I did a filecheck for the game to make sure nothing was corupted.

Not sure why out of no where it suddenly red flaged. Same thing happened to several friend in game, but they had to log back in the game without Windower.

Here's a copy of the Norton 360 security report.

another thing you can do to shorten everything, that is if you have the game installed on another PC, is take the file in question and copy it back to where it belongs. That is what i did and the game fired right up without a hitch.

For anyone still having this problem, SE has acknowledged that it is a problem with vanilla FFXI (really with Norton Antivirus):

                        http://forum.square-...rsion-(Nov.-17)

They're going to have to go through Norton's system to try and get them to make FFXI a global exception, so that might take some time.

Yeah, I discovered today it was caused by Norton. My laptop was working fine and I stepped away for a while. When I tried to log another char I started getting the same error. Then I noticed Norton was requesting a reboot. Sure enough Norton did a scan and deleted (quarantined) one of FFXI dll files. I restored it and it works fine now. Did the same thing on the desktop and it works too.
