Draw Distance Not Changing

Best Answer Arcon , 14 November 2015 - 09:01 PM
ClippingPlane actually corresponds to the in-game setting "Clipping Plane", which adjusts the map draw distance and mob draw distance (it won't display mobs any further away than 50', but it will display the ones within that range with less fogging). MapDrawDistance adjusts the map draw distance only, without the mob draw distance. So the latter is contained within the former.
It does work fine for me. Some maps are weird when it comes to the clipping plane and won't draw some objects unless certain geometric conditions are met. You can test if it works fine if you do "//config ClippingPlane 0.1", which should reduce the viewable map to just the immediate surrounding. If it does that then it means it works fine and the map you're in is just weird that way. One map where I've invariably had issues with the clipping plane is Konschtat Highlands, for example. Could you confirm if this is the case?

I just started looking up ways to increase the Clipping Plane further, and tracked it down to the Config Plugin, which supposedly can be used to change these settings. I have tried and tried and nothing I type in works. I've tried editing the settings file, the Init file, and typing in exactly what //Config says to type in order to change a setting, yet nothing works. Only the in-game clipping plane works. I can see that my current Clipping Plane setting is set to 20, yet it looks like it's set to 1 still. It's as if it only reads my games settings, and not Configs. Which is strange, because the Unlimited plugin works, yet changing framerate in Config does not, leaving me to believe there's something wrong with Config. I've tried mapdrawdistance, mobdrawdistance and clippingplane, to no avail. What am I doing wrong?

I'm having the same issue- Draw Distance isn't working at all for me :/ Worked fine before the most recent 11 update.

Hello, I am also having an issue with draw distance, hoping for some information to remedy this

It should be fixed as of last night. Try updating.

For the record, those were instructions for use with the (pre-bundled) DrawDistance plugin, which is no longer in use. Instead use the Config plugin.

It still isn't working for me. And yes, I'm using the Config plugin. What exactly am I supposed to type in here, in order to see a difference, because everything I've tried typing has not worked.

It still isn't working for me.
Also, a bug I just found, typing in "//config clippingplane" and "//config <clippingplane>" will unload the plugin.

For example:
//config ClippingPlane 10
I'll look into the unloading issue, it has been reported before.

For example:
//config ClippingPlane 10
Is 10 the maximum value, or is 10 just the maximum for the game itself? I just tried this and the fog is reduced, yes, I can see that it does work going from 1 to 10, but the actual map isn't displaying any further. The example I'm using is as soon as you walk outside of Selbina and run towards the gate, you'll notice the geometry pop in in the distance. Is Config supposed to change this? Or is it simply just a fog-be-gone?

It does increase the distance to which a map is displayed, but it does not adjust geometry. That is a feature that I, personally, would also love to have, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

So, it does work the same way the in-game Clipping Plane works, as in loading or displaying more of the map further? If this is the case, then yeah, I guess it isn't working for me. For some reason, it's only changing the fog when adjusting both mapdrawdistance and clippingplane, but I'm sure those two are supposed to be the same setting, just with different names.

Ah, I see. I will be able to test it out in about 5 hours, once I'm off work. I'll update you soon. But as I said before, I did try //config ClippingPlane 1, and it did not affect the map at all, and only changed the density of the fog. This was in Valkurm Dunes right outside of Selbina.

I'm glad to see Vana'diel all put together for once, and not just pop up and disappear like running through a jigsaw puzzle being made right in front of me. I apologize if this caught to much of your attention, when it probably just worked the whole time, but at least now, if another idiot has issues with this plugin, he'll know not to test it outside of Selbina!
Thank you for your assistance and patience.

Not a problem, the confusion is understandable, like I said, some maps are just weird like that. I wish we could do it better, but I don't quite know how to work around that (or why it's an issue in the first place).

By the way, //config ClippingPlane 1 is the same as setting the slider in the menu to maximum; //config ClippingPlane 0.5 is the same as the minimum. So when you said you set it to 1 and didn't see a change, that's pretty much exactly what you would expect, since you haven't actually changed anything.
