Sorry but I haven't been able to find the answer to this simple question...

How do you edit map? Could not find a tool to extract/convert, etc...

      Thanks

I'm disappointed there has been no answer to this, I'd love to know how to do this myself. Is it just a matter of changing the file extensions?

The maps are in different formats of the S3 texture compression, which you cannot just easily edit. You'd have to find a DXTn converter, convert the maps from DXTn to a bitmap, edit them, then convert it back.

Changetex will remove the map from the .dat file changing it into an adaptable format, you can then use your tool of choice to edit and use Changetex to export them back into the .dat

That being said there's been some hassle with the much older map .dats not accepting modified maps, but the above approach should work for anything post-abyssea afaik.
