I presume by the lack of responses there is no way to fix this issue.

There isn't, this has been commonly reported with Windows 8. It seems to be correlated to some driver versions, but no hard evidence has ever been found, and no solution devised. It only seems to apply to a certain number of people as well. Two of our devs have tried it on Windows 8 and couldn't replicate the error. At this point we have no idea what's causing it.

If you got an NVidia Card don't use the latest and greatest drivers. it will cause Windower to crash on start up. Also don't get the latest driver from Microsoft Updates either.

None of our devs who use Win8 could reproduce it so far. There might be a fix for it coming, but I cannot say when. See my recruitment post :)
