If you succeeded, any hints on how you did it?
Getting this info out is bound to save loads of headaches out there.
FFAssist2 works fine on mine, with just Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade from Vista Premium. Worked perfectly right out of the box. I recall having some problems setting it up to work in vista, but it was so long ago, I don't remember the issue.

Yep... definitely broken.
Not broken at all, everything works just as per before the (pre)patch.

Thanks for the reply, Bahzell... this means i'll get back to trying even more options.
One suspicious circumstance could be the codepage; check the "\"-char on these 2:
WinXPsp3

Win7RC/Ultimate

I'm using Swedish localsettings on the Win7RC-box. Perhaps this could have something to do with the problems above?
Here's what happens in short:
WinXP
1. launch POL
2. launch FFA2
3. login with char
4. alttab -> ctrl+F1 to start FFA2
5. alttab back info the game and watch FFA2 start drawing the onscreen windows etc and activate
Win7
1. launch POL
2. launch FFA2
3. login with char
4. alttab -> ctrl+F1 to start FFA2
5. alttab back info the game and... FFA2 apparantly tried to write the windows onscreen but nothing shows up (takes the same time as on XP). After the initialisation FFA2 usually writes the "plugin[plugins\recast.dll] loaded by section etc etc". It happens on Win7 too and after the same delay. But with the result presented above instead. Failed.

Ok, huge thanks to Keyser and Bahzell. It seems i somehow screwed up when applying the latest FFA2-patches on this computer but succeeded on the XP-box. So many hours of testing and errorseeking. And it was all a matter of patching. *drops dead*
Works great on Win7RC now.

I ended up just clicking on one of the other files, then going up to the URL bar and replacing the number with the one I wanted. Hit enter, enter password, d/l file, ???, profit.
