I'm able to login to POL with no issue whatsoever.  It's once I click play for FFXI that I keep crashing.  I tried it with all addons off, still crashed.  I uninstalled and then reinstalled Windower to see if that would fix it, and it still crashed.  I even tried a seperate luacore.dll file someone had in another thread, and it still crashed.

I'm at my wits end here, and I have no idea what to do.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We will need a crash dump.

I tried that =/.  It never made the dump folder, and whenever it crashed it never put it anywhere.  I'll try it again tho.

Edit: Just tried logging in, and now it's frozen at "Connecting to lobby server..."

Does it crash or freeze? If it crashes, does it crash to desktop immediately or do you get a confirmation box "pol.exe has stopped working bla"?

When it crashes I get the confirmation box.  When it DOESN'T get that box, it hangs on connecting to lobby server.

              Hello all,

I'm trying to help a friend install and get windower up and running on his pc and we are having a few issues that i can't find solutions for. We are both computer amateurs(This technology stuff is too advanced). When we open POL with windower it seems to be okay until he clicks on his POL ID. Then it just locks up. I also was trying to find the windower configu utility and have been unable to do so. Is that no longer there?

              Thanks for any advice.

The freezing thing is almost certainly caused by a certain addon. You should disable all addons then enable half of them and so forth until you find out which addon it is.

This is likely a separate issue. By POL ID you mean when he's about to enter his password? Does it work without Windower?

The config utility I think you're talking about is now in Windower.exe. Just run it and click on the pen icon to edit a certain profile. There you can set up things like language, resolution, etc.

Well, that's very strange... can you try not loading any plugins either?

To do that, start POL through Windower, then go to Windower/scripts/autoload/autoload.txt and erase everything inside that file before you click on "Play" to launch FFXI. That should start without any plugins or addons loaded. If it still freezes, we will need a dump of that process... but that will be a bit more annoying to get.

His POL does work when he runs it while not using windower. But for some reason after the windower changes to the pol password entry screen it locks up. I had him completely remove windower and try a new install and it is still doing the same thing.

Windower is not persistent. If it's happening without Windower loaded then it's not a Windower issue.

Also, I'm not sure if that was just inaccurate wording, but Windower never changed anything about the password entry screen. Maybe I just misunderstood you there.

my problem solved by deleting the content of update folder

                      C:\Program Files (x86)\Windower4\updates

Yeah, it keep crashing to desktop even with that.  I even did multiple fresh new installs and it's still doing it.  It either hangs on Connecting to lobby server, after which I have to ctrl/alt/del which then causes it to pop up the "POL is not working" box, or it will just immediately pop up that box.  I may just say screw it and play it in the windowed mode from the default launcher.

So wait.. if it's popping up that box, that is not a crash to desktop. Crash to desktop means no box, no error message, the window just magically disappears. If it crashes with an error, you can make a crash dump and I can examine it.

Follow either this guide or this one to create a crash dump.
